Mrs. Gladys Redmon Whaley, age 77 of Saint Johns, FL, formerly of Wartburg, passed away Saturday September 17, 2011 at River Garden Hebrew Home in Florida. She was born May 13, 1934 in Wartburg to the late Perry and Winnie Newberry Redmon. Gladys was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She moved to Florida in 2002 and loved spending time with her children and family. Gladys had three children who served in the military: Darrell served in the US Navy and Tina and Kathy both served in the US Air Force. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Darrell and Reda Whaley of Atlanta, GA. Four daughters and sons-in-law: Shirley and Tom Thacker of Saint Johns, FL, Charlene and Tim Hammond of Powell, Tina and Keith Mann of Pace, FL and Kathy and Major Chad Sitzmann of Travis AFB, CA. Fifteen grandchildren and their spouses: James, Darrell and DeLayla Whaley, Jenna Haunty (Matt), Crey Thacker, Dr. Sarah Hammond (Cory Hounschell), Aarin Lowe (Chris), Kali, Kacie and Jordan Mann, Caleb Hammond, Anna Crozier (Nick), Jasilyn, Jadyn and Gracie Sitzmann. Three great grandchildren: Claire, Nathan and Mira Haunty. Two sisters and one brother-in-law: Rosella and Jim Schubert, Mary Ellen Laymance all of Wartburg. Four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Thomas and Margaret Redmon, Glen Redmon, Louis and Betty Redmon, Herbert and Sharon Redmon all also of Wartburg. The family will receive friends Wednesday September 21, 2011 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Liberty Baptist Church in Wartburg. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Paul Frick officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Gladys to the River Gardens Hebrew Home, 11401 Old St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32258.
