Margie Lynn Clark, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on June 22, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 24, 1953, in Harriman, Tennessee, Margie was raised in Oakdale as one of eleven children. In the small-town hills and hallways of Oakdale School, she stood out-not just as a star basketball player, but as a spirited, mischievous soul with an unstoppable drive. It was there she began to shape the grit, humor, and resilience that would define her life.
Margie built a successful career in sales management within the Clark family's furniture business, working at Factory Furniture, Family Furniture, and Embassy Furniture. Alongside her work in furniture, she also worked as a real estate agent, with a natural knack for connecting with people. She later extended her commitment to the community by serving one term on the Clarksville City Council, where she was known for her straightforward, fair approach and unwavering support for the underdog.
Still, her proudest accomplishments weren't professional-they were personal. She loved her brothers and sisters and shared close relationships with each of them, always balancing love and humor in how she connected. Yet her greatest joy and pride in life were her two daughters. Margie raised them with fierce love, a generous spirit, and just the right dose of mischief. Raising her daughters was the role she cherished most, and their bond was unbreakable.
Her kitchen table was a gathering place for anyone who needed a meal, a laugh, or a listening ear. She made sure everyone was fed-kids, neighbors, whoever walked through the door-and she never hesitated to pile them into the car for a softball game or two. She was always in motion: chauffeuring kids, delivering meals, making things happen-but never too busy for a good laugh or a quick check-in. She showed her love through action, loyalty, and care.
She waited longer than most to become a grandmother, and she loved the role deeply. She embraced being "GiGi" wholeheartedly, making sure her grandchildren always had ice cream money in their pockets and "GiGi's popcorn" fully stocked.
Margie is survived by her daughters, Angela Nicole Clark and Meredith Clark McCord (Clay); and her treasured grandchildren, James Wakefield McCord, Mary Clark McCord, and Robert Clay McCord. She is also survived by her siblings: James Franklin Cook (Rhonda), Alvin Buford Cook (Pam), Earl Allen Cook (Mary), Sandra Kay Helton (Junior), Pamela Jean Wittibslager (Jeff), and Glenda Faye Condrone (Butch). She shared a lifelong bond with her sister Mary Cook Clark and her spouse, the late Robert W. Clark, with whom Margie had a special and enduring relationship. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rosie Holt Cook, and brothers, George Robert Cook, Fred Edward Cook, and Paul Randall Cook.
The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers who provided excellent care and companionship to Margie in her final months. We are deeply grateful to Greta Simon, Bridgette Bunch, Ila Bunch, Patty Dryden, Ebony Quinn, Monique Dotson, and Vickie Fitzpatrick for their support.
