Michael Dewayne Hamby

July 1, 1964 — April 14, 2026

Mr. Michael D. "Mike" Hamby, age 61 of the Scutcheon community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 14, 2026, at his home. Mike was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served in the 1st Armored Division "Old Iron Sides" in Germany and the 2nd Armored Division "Hell on Wheels" at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas. Mike was saved and baptized into Elizabeth Baptist church when he was 16 by his father, the late Bro. Arnold Hamby.

Mike is now enjoying some long-awaited reunions with those who went before him: His beloved parents: Arnold and Ruby Swint Hamby, three brothers: Randall, Dennis and David, and Hamby, in-laws: Barney and Barbara Lowe, and Grandparents: Archie & Gertie Swint and Jake & Earnie Hamby.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Robin Lowe Hamby and their children Travis Randall Hamby, Jessica Hamby Nelson, and Son-in-Law Jason Nelson.

He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Otto & Alice Nelson, sister Stacie, Brother-in-Law Mike Taylor, nieces Ashton Taylor and Missy Hamby, and sister-in-law Myrtle Lowe.

These are in addition to his many other dear family members and friends.

He and Robin made their home on a former Hamby homeplace site, and he loved spending his time there and taking care of the property. There is nowhere else he would rather be. After leaving the military, he worked hard for his family his entire life. In 2023 he retired from his career as a Security Police officer for the Oak Ridge DOE plants.

Mike enjoyed many hobbies, especially in his recent years of retirement. He was a car enthusiast and loved to work on and restore them. His favorite car was his 1970 Mustang where he installed an 8 track player to play Bob Seger. He also loved to assemble, paint, and collect model aircraft as well as collect and restore firearms.

His absolute favorite pastime was spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren Otto and Alice. He was the Dad and Papaw who never missed a practice, game, recital, or any other milestone. He liked to say “he’d toned it down over the years,” and didn’t get as loud at ballgames anymore. Anyone who knew him knows he was willing to drop everything to help anyone at any time. He will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 11:00 A.M to 1:00 P.M at Davis Funeral Home in Wartburg. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M officiated by Bro. Buster Armes. Graveside services will follow at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike's name to the American Legion Post 149 Honor Guard, 202 S. Kingston St., Wartburg, TN 37887
