Samuel Odell Daugherty

December 15, 1943 — April 29, 2025

Wartburg

Mr. Samuel Odell Daugherty, age 81, of Wartburg passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at his home. A decorated Army Veteran, Samuel served 2 tours in Vietnam and spent a year in Korea. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he enlisted in the United States National Guard where he served over 10 years. Samuel retired back in 2008 after a lengthy career working as a Correctional Officer inside the Morgan County Correctional Complex. During his time as a C.O. inside the correctional complex, he was a member of the Correctional Emergency Response Team, also known as “T.A.C.T.”, of which he was very proud of. Aside from his working career, Samuel kept himself busy around the house. If it wasn’t tending the vegetable garden or working the flower beds, you’d probably find him tending to the chickens. Over time, he became quite the gardener. Samuel was a man of faith who enjoyed attending church when he could, but most everyone would say that he was a family man. Family dinners and “get togethers” were right up his alley. He loved his family endlessly, especially his grandchildren. In the latter years of his life, much to the delight of Deborah, he even began to learn how to cook and wash dishes. Samuel was a man who was always willing to help people and will be missed tremendously by all who knew him.
